Historical Encounters with Racism and Search for Identity in God
On March 24, 2022, Asian and Burmese Ministries of American Baptist Home Mission Societies, presented a webinar training for ministry leaders, including the Asian Americans and Burmese who have been affected by historic and present racism. This training provides critical knowledge about the immigration experiences of these populations, how the past informs the ongoing rise of anti-Asian sentiment and acts of violence, and it will equip ministry leaders with a compassionate understanding of God’s creation upon humanity.
What you’ll learn:
- The history of Asian Americans in the United States
- The history of Burma and the present realities that prompted immigration to the U.S.
- The impact of racism on Asian Americans and Burmese in the U.S.
- How all followers of Jesus can effectively respond to God and serve as allies and advocates
Featured speakers: Angelene Naw, Ph.D., Professor Emerita, Judson University and Dr. Russell Jeung, Professor of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University and co-founder of “Stop AAPI Hate”
