Laura Miraz, PhD, SPHR

Laura Miraz is a strategic human resources professional with experience in developing strong working relationships at all levels of the organization. Miraz works with senior management to achieve organizational objectives and serves as a mission-oriented change agent. Miraz facilitates organizational change and employee development with an emphasis of mission alignment and value congruence.

With more than twenty years of HR experience, Miraz has a proven track record in change management initiatives as well as expertise as a `people person’ able to translate organizational goals and objectives into value-added HR programs and systems to produce results.

Miraz works as the senior HR executive for the American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS). Miraz is also the principal for HRMATTERS, a mission-focused human resource management service for partners of ABHMS. Among key clients are the American Baptist Women’s Ministries, the American Baptist Extension Corporation and the American Baptist Historical Society. Miraz also serves as the HR executive for the American Baptist Foundation.

Originally from Uruguay and raised in NYC, Miraz is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbian University. Miraz has a master’s degree in Human Genetics and a Master of Public Health; as well as a PhD in Organization and Management with a subspecialization in Human Resource Management.

Committed to continuous growth and development and lifelong learning, Miraz earned her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR ®) certification from the HR Certification Institute and has also achieved her SHRM-SCP from The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), both organizations have national and international recognized certifying organization for the human resource profession. Presently, Miraz is pursuing a Master of Arts in Religious Studies at the Hartford International University (formerly Hartford Seminary).

Miraz is an adjunct professor in nonprofit management and human resource management with experience teaching online and onsite courses. Presently teaches with DeVry University and has also taught courses for West Chester University, Eastern University and Esperanza College.

Miraz has extensive experience as a nonprofit leader having served on numerous American Baptist boards, including the ABCUSA General Board and MMBB. Presently, Miraz serves on the Board of Trustees of the Berkeley School of Theology (formerly the American Baptist Seminary of the West).
