Greta A. Wagner, BNS, MA, MDiv, is an ordained American Baptist minister, an ABCUSA-endorsed chaplain, and a retired ACPE Certified Educator. She graduated first in class from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary where she earned her Master of Divinity in 1991.

Previously Greta was the first woman in ministry to serve as Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church, Lima, OH. In later years, Rev. Wagner served as Pastor of First Baptist Church in Spencerville, OH, as well as the secretary of the ABC/OH Executive Committee and a member of the ABC/OH Advisory Board on Ordination. Also in Ohio, she served in leadership roles in community-based initiatives for social justice, diversity, and anti-racism, including the Mayor’s Clergy Task Force on Racism and Violence in Lima, OH.

After completing four units of CPE to secure endorsement as a chaplain, Rev. Wagner served as ICU and Open Heart chaplain in a faith-based medical center (1995–2004). In 2005 she became Director of Spirituality for the Geisinger Health System in Central PA, providing spirituality education to staff across the system. While there she secured her ACPE certification in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).

In 2014, as Director of Spiritual Care and CPE at Trinity Community, a 220-resident SAGE-certified life care facility in Ohio, Rev. Wagner inaugurated a nontraditional CPE program that became a fully accredited ACPE Center in 2016.

After a 20-year career in professional nursing, followed by close to two decades of ordained ministry, Rev. Wagner retired in 2018, returning “home” to the Philadelphia area soon after. An active member of Central Baptist Church in Wayne, PA, Greta is a volunteer on boards, task forces, and in pastoral roles upon request. She remains active with ABC Ministers Council and serves as advisor for the ABHMS National Network for Chaplains and Specialized Ministers.
